Nearly 100 runners and walkers took to the trails in the St. Albans City Park for the seventh annual Almost Heaven Trail Race on Saturday, July 23, 2022. The race began at 8:00 a.m. on a sunny, hot and humid morning, with an uphill start to the challenging 5k (3.1 mile) course.
The course traversed the primarily single-track trails throughout the Park. With very little flat ground, the runners navigated the rock and root strewn course. This was the first of four races that comprise the St. Albans road and trail series and provided a great start for what looks to be a very competitive summer and fall racing season.
The first male runner was Jonathan Fee with a time of 22:21. The first female runner (and third overall) was Abigail Torman who completed the course in 26:00.
The proceeds from this event benefits the Almost Heaven Scholarship Fund which annually issues scholarships to West Virginia High School graduates who will be attending college in this state. This is an award based on financial need and academic excellence.
