Although the March 12th Shamrock Shuffle trail race was postponed due to a snowstorm, the City of Nitro and Appalachian Timing worked diligently to allow the race to be rescheduled for March 26th. Due to the condition of the trails, the race was held on the streets of Nitro, WV on a flat, fast 5k course.
With temperatures in the mid 30’s and a strong wind blowing, the runners and walkers started at 9:00 a.m. on the 3.1-mile course that ran through neighborhoods near Nitro High School. The first finisher was Cory Edwards in a time of 20:18. He was followed to the finish line by Michael Louk in a time of 23:03. The first female and fourth overall was Danielle Ward with a time of 23:57. The second female finisher was Michelle Ward at 23:59.
Special thanks to Joe Stevens of the Nitro CVB for coordinating Nitro City services and to Ricky Campbell of Appalachian Timing for timing and coordinating the event. And, thanks to all who participated in helping raise money for the Almost Heaven Scholarship Fund.
The next event for the Scholarship Fund will be the Almost Heaven 5k Trail Race on the trails of the St. Albans City Park. That is the first race of the 4 event St. Albans Race Series and will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at 8:00 a.m. Be watching for more information on this site or at aptiming.com.
