The fourth annual Almost Heaven 7(k) was held on Saturday, July 20 at the St. Albans City Park. The race began at 8:00 a.m. with “real feel’ temperatures hovering around 90 degrees. Nearly 170 people registered for the event that circles the hill sides that encompass the City Park.
The course challenged the runners as it covered the primarily single-track trails throughout the Park. The tree canopy helped keep the participants cooler on a very hot morning. This was the first of the four race St. Albans series and helped prepare the runners for the remaining races in the summer and fall.
The first male runner was Andrew Bailey with a time of 29:27. The first female runner was Tara Schneider who completed the course in 41:04.
The proceeds of this event benefits the Almost Heaven Scholarship Fund which recently issued 5 scholarships to West Virginia High School graduates who will be attending college in this state.
